Barcelona Day 51

¡Barça Barça Barça! After tonight there’s only one thing on my mind, and that’s fútbol! No not the American football where there’s downs and punts that I don’t understand, but the European fútbol with penalties and free kicks that I don’t understand. I was shocked at how much better I felt this morning and was so excited about it that I ended up buying tickets to tonight’s Barcelona vs Espanyol match. My roommate and another friend had already purchased their tickets, so I didn’t want to feel left out and bought tickets to go with another friend. Before the game my friend and I set off to go buy some authentic Barça gear. Now I know absolutely nothing about fútbol, so when I ended up buying a jersey with a player’s name on the back I felt like such a poser, but being at the game, surrounded by crazy, loud fans, made me feel like I knew what was going on. Turns out these last minute seats I ended up buying were front row, right behind the goal seats. What are the odds of that! Right in front of my own two eyes I could see the faces of all the players and see the goal that almost happened. The crowd at a fútbol match is unlike any other sport! The men around me were cheering the whole time, cussing out the opposing team, and waving their flags around at every second. I wish I could have understood what they were saying, but all I knew was that most of it was profanity. I must say that I learned a new range of Spanish cuss words. For me, one of the most memorable parts of the whole game was when I almost got hit in the face by the ball after Messi had a free kick. Now I don’t know why he kicked or don’t even know how it ended up so far from the goal, but I do know that Messi is supposed to be one of the team’s best players. So maybe being hit by the ball he kicked would have been a privilege. In the end, it was no surprise that Barça won 1-0. I never realized how difficult it was to score a goal in fútbol! My biggest regret of the night would have to be not thinking to bring my camera with me. I bing my camera with me everywhere, how on earth did I forget it on such a special night?! This can only mean one thing then, looks like I’ll have to go to another game! So until then, I’ve got some fútbol knowledge to start brushing up on! Adios!
