Barcelona Day 73.

Wednesday November 27th!

The benefit of only having one class on Wednesdays is that it makes it even easier to skip it. So rather than go to class, my mom, sister, and I went out to a hipster brunch place where I ate some amazing eggs benedict on top of a waffle. It was extremely delicious, but so disappointing when I was too full to finish it. What I’ve noticed is that my knowledge of good restaurants in Barcelona only consist of breakfast places or dessert places, which really sucks when dinner time comes around. Anyways, our tourist attraction of the day was La Sagrada Familia! I can’t even express how much I love Sagrada Familia. It’s crazy to think that this may be the last time I visit Sagrada Familia, but I definitely plan on going back once more before I return home. It’s such a beautiful place, and I can just sit in there for hours reflecting on anything. Seeing the unfinished Sagrada Familia makes me wonder if I’ll ever be back to see it completed, and I definitely hope I will! After spending hours dwelling in the breathtaking basilica, we embraced one of the many Spanish traditions- siesta. We got back to our hotel and rather than take a one hour nap, my sister and I fell asleep for three good hours. It’s never possible to have a short nap. Other than the highlight of going to Sagrada Familia, there wasn’t much on our agenda on Wednesday. My mom and sister’s Barcelona trip has been a relaxing and slow one. While there is much to see, we’re taking our time and enjoying things little by little.

What I’ve learned from my four months of traveling is that it’s not possible to understand a city in such a short amount of time. Yes you can see all the tourist attractions and eat at the best restaurants, but it takes time to really feel like a local. Each culture is different with its different languages, traditions, and ways of life. It’s easy to come to a new place for a few days, experience as much as you can, and say you’ve been there done that, but the true experience only comes with long term visits. Even having been in Barcelona for a few months now, I still feel like there is so much I didn’t do. There will always be more to see, more to eat, and more to visit, and time is never enough.. But I’ve accomplished more than I could have ever imagined and created a memory I will never forget. So in the end, I think that is what it’s all about- the memory. Adios!
