Hawaii Days 11- 12.

In the words of my favorite Disney character, “Ohana means family.” Coming to Hawaii has been such a smooth transition, and I’d like to thank the importance of ohana for that. My host family has been overwhelmingly hospitable. They have welcomed me into their home and treated me with such generosity. Giving hugs and greeting church members reminds me how I’m a member of their church though I’ve only been there a few weeks. I feel like I’ve known the members of the church for years, and it hasn’t been too difficult to get to know those around me. The friends I’ve made make me laugh and smile, and it’s been a pleasure to get to know them more. They put the fun in work, while also reminding me what it’s like to live Christ like. There hasn’t been a hint of homesickness or a doubt of why I came here, because in my heart and mind it feels like home.

There are so many qualities of this community that I adore and admire. I love the mix of different island cultures. I love the importance of remembering Hawaiian roots. I love the relaxed island atmosphere. I love the food. I love the poke and furikake. I love the scenery. I love hanging out with friends at the beach. I love the clear water and soft sand of the beach. I love the spontaneous adventures and super fun days. I love the beauty of nature. I love how everyone knows everyone. I love driving by and waving to cars of people I know. I love the aunties and uncles who I’ve only known for two weeks. I love how they treat me like family. I love the hugs. I love talking story. I love how welcoming the members of the church are. I love the different ministries I’ve gotten involved in. I love working with the kids of the school. I love teaching kids about God. I love it all, and I love all the happiness that comes along.
