Vacation Bible School should really be called CWWK, Crazy Week With Kids. VBS was crazy in all senses and forms. We ran around like crazy trying to make sure everything was perfectly set up, and we also had crazy fun singing and dancing to new songs. Every morning I woke up extra early to get to work, and every night I slept extra late preparing for the next day. During sessions I was being pushed and pulled in every direction, and at times I felt like a chicken running around without a head. It was crazy, but it was absolutely worth it.

I remember going to VBS every summer as a kid. I remember how much I loved playing games and making silly crafts. Now here I am a decade later directing VBS. One VBS my church held was an island theme, and we learned all about God’s love and how He describes love in 1st Corinthians 13: 4-8. The VBS I directed was all about God’s love and what He says in 1st Corinthians 13: 4-8. It blew my mind. Here I was about to direct a VBS for a theme that I’m 100% positive I experienced as a child. It made me smile, and I couldn’t stop thinking about how silly God is.

Though I lost plenty of sleep this week, it was all worth it. I loved seeing the kids sing and dance. I loved hearing about all that they learned. I loved running around and playing games with them. No other feeling of pride and accomplishment could replace the feeling I had when I called students up, and they could recite the entire memory verse to me after only one day of learning it. My prayer is that even though the week is over that each child will remember. They’ll remember the fun, they’ll remember the activities, but most importantly, they’ll remember all about God’s love. I hope they’ll remember the verses about love. I hope they’ll remember the stories about love. Above all else, I hope they remember how God infinitely and unconditionally loves them.
