DR Congo Day 10

Group of WomenAugust 3

After a four hour longer church service, all I could say was that I was blown away. Sunday school started at 10, and Niko led a wonderful sermon about Job and his faithfulness to God. Throughout the sermon a few team members, as well as myself, shared their testimony. It was moving to see how God is always working in our lives, and He will never leave us. Once Sunday school ended Baba Deron preached on what it means to be salt and light. One of the verses in the passage he used is one that I live by. Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

This verse plays a huge role in why I’m here and what I’m doing here. I love to serve God, but I will never serve God so that people will glorify me. My hope is that through my service others will see the magnificence of Christ. The love that I share to others is nothing in comparison to Christ’s unfailing and unending love. All that I do I want to point back to Christ. I don’t want there to be a shadow of a doubt that I follow an amazing God.

Though hearing Niko and Baba preach was a treat, the real highlight of the service was seeing the different congregations come together and worship through song and dance. Five of the churches we visited were present: Bridge Church- Pastor Celestin, Bethel Church- Pastor Andre, Good Samaritan- Pastor Emee, Bethseda Church- Pastor Sego and one more church that I can’t quite remember the name of. Each church had a choir, and their choirs would come up to sing and dance for at least ten minutes. It was loud, it was crazy, and it was an awesome time of worship!

It blew my mind to think that the God they sing to and praise is the same God we sing to and praise. Even though we speak different languages and sing different songs, it is still the same God. God is everywhere and in everyone. He hears all prayers and heals all brokenness.

This trip has been a reminder to me of the magnificence of God. God is so great that He is worth shouting and dancing for. The church choirs spared no expense and danced until their very last breath. The boys played the drums without a single pause. Our God is worthy to be praised. He deserves every whistle and every clap. Our God works wonders in our life. He never leaves us, and He never fails us. He always loves, protects, and guides.
