Point Loma Days 73 – 80.

Cassie. Wednesday to Wednesday.

It was a lovely 7 days that I got to spend with my sister. The weather wasn’t all too fantastic, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying every bit of her being in San Diego. We went to the zoo and gazed at the elephants, we went to Disneyland and it felt like we were kids again, we ate at every possible food joint we could and filled my fridge with leftovers. Spending quality time with family is something that should never be taken for granted. I loved sharing my small twin size dorm room bed with my sister and waking up to her hitting me in the face. I loved introducing her to my college life and giving her a glimpse of what the experience feels like. I can only hope that in return she enjoyed this time just as much as I did.

My sister is a few years younger than me, but in many ways she is a better version of me. We’ve gone through all the same experiences, but she came out of it stronger, smarter, and taller. Her academic success is something I could only dream of having or coming close to. While I pushed her to get involved in school, her participation in things that I never attempted doing is vast. She’s avoiding all the mistakes that I made and doing everything better than I could have.

While I’ve always tried to plan her life for her and tell her what to do, my suggestions can only stretch so far. I can tell her to take this AP course, but I won’t be the one to do the work for her. I can tell her to sign up for the SAT at this time, but I won’t be the one taking the test for her. I take pride in the role I play in her life, but it brings me even greater joy to see how amazingly she follows through.

I don’t know what is in store for her, or what path she is going to pursue, but I know that she is capable of being great.
